About the club

Who we are

A student-run club sport uniting Harvard's combat sports community under one roof.

Our mission

Make combat sports at Harvard accessible to everyone

The Harvard Combat Sports Club (HCSC) exists so that any Harvard student can train in combat sports in a safe, supportive, and fun environment. We currently run two branches: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, open to all students, and Women's Wrestling, a women-only program dedicated to growing the sport at the collegiate level. The club is built to grow: new disciplines such as Muay Thai or MMA can be added as branches with their own coaches and practices.

Every branch shares the same values: technique over ego, teammates over rivals, and consistency over intensity. We train hard, we look after each other on the mat, and we celebrate every first stripe, first takedown, and first competition.

Our story

How we got here

  • Harvard Jiu-Jitsu Club

Harvard's BJJ club grew into one of the largest martial arts communities on campus, training gi and no-gi with experienced instructors and hosting the Harvard Jiu-Jitsu Invitational.

  • 2019 · Harvard Women's Wrestling Club

Founded to give women at Harvard a place to wrestle, the club survived the pandemic, then returned to the MAC for twice-weekly practices, New England tournaments, and clinics with Olympic-level athletes.

  • 2026 · Harvard Combat Sports Club

The two clubs joined forces as HCSC: shared leadership, shared resources, and a bigger, friendlier community for anyone who wants to train. Each branch keeps its own practices, coaches, and identity, and the structure leaves room for new disciplines.

What hasn't changed

  • Jiu-Jitsu still trains at the QRAC; wrestling still trains in the MAC wrestling room.
  • Women's Wrestling remains a women-only space.
  • Beginners are still the majority of new members every semester.
  • You can train in one branch or all of them. Dues cover the whole club.
